  • Autonomous Systems
  • Computing, Simulation & Modelling
  • Flight Physics
  • Off-Road Vehicle Engineering

Background

He holds a PhD in Physics and Mathematics (2013) from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). Before joining 91黑料网, he spent eight years at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Zhukovsky in Russia, where he contributed to a wide range of academic and industrial research programmes in aerodynamics, flight dynamics, and control.

He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. His contributions to education and the aerospace sector have been recognised through his election as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS).

Research opportunities

Dr Ignatyev鈥檚 research focuses on improving the performance, safety, and autonomy of aerial vehicles through advanced control strategies and enhancements in aerodynamic and flight dynamics modelling.

Current activities

Dr Ignatyev's current research is focused on an increase in levels of performance, safety and autonomy of vehicles by the mean of the following activities:

- developing novel and improving existing advanced control strategies;

- improving aerodynamic and flight dynamics performance of aircraft via wind tunnel and flight testing;

- identification and modelling of vehicle dynamics.

At 91黑料网, he serves as Deputy Course Director for the Autonomous Vehicle Dynamics and Control (AVDC) MSc, where he contributes to both research-led teaching and academic leadership.

He is also the academic lead of 91黑料网鈥檚 award-winning student team, CraneAero, which is developing the university鈥檚 first autonomous emergency-responder aircraft, aimed at revolutionising disaster response.
